It covers the events of the September 5, 1972 hostage-taking by Palestinian terrorists of the Israeli team during the Olympics in Munich, Germany
Narrative
During the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, Germany, an American sports news team has to adjust to live coverage of Israeli athletes being held hostage by a terrorist group, I hadn’t heard much about this, but as soon as the movie started, I was intrigued because I knew the story this was based on. This movie doesn’t delve into the politics of the situation but instead focuses on the ABC sports news team who had to scramble to cover the events as they unfolded.
This was well told and very well edited, with a combination of actual footage of the event mixed with scenes from the actors
performances. I was very impressed with how this was all pulled off and also enjoyed watching the story unfold through the eyes of the news team.
Or tried to
It was interesting to see how quickly they had to think on their feet to be able to cover as much of what was happening as possible. It was also interesting to see the “behind the scenes” of news coverage – when mainstream media actually acted ethically.
This is not an action-packed movie, but I was engaged the entire time and not bored at all
It’s also a pretty short movie, running about 90 minutes (although it felt longer, because of everything else that was going on). Recommended.
