A modern-day tale of fortune-telling in the world of West Texas oil rigs. A Landman, at least one who works in the oil industry, will act as a middleman between exploration companies and landowners. Typically, a Landman’s job is to negotiate and finalize contracts with landowners with mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent. Essentially, they manage the land and secure the leases so that they can drill for oil and gas. Like a foreman on a construction site, they build roads, build workers’ quarters (man camp), supervise the assembly of excavation machinery, and drill the well site itself, especially in remote locations. They are also part fixer, part troubleshooter, and part facilitator. Referenced in CBS News Sunday Morning: Episode #44.24 (2022). This could easily have been rated 8.5 – 9. If it weren’t for the very sexualized and awkward daughter and ex-wife/mother. They serve no purpose in the plot and are simply annoying and insulting to the women of West Texas. As a man from far West Texas, I understand where Sheridan is coming from in a sense, but this is just awful. West Texas women are the strongest and most ambitious women I know. Now, on top of that, the writing and acting are great. Sheridan easily has another Yellowstone on his hands if he can get rid of the very uncomfortable family horniness. But again, I love Sheridan’s writing (and acting) and an absolutely very enjoyable show, for the most part.
