In the BBC TV adaptation of Poldark
Narrative
It follows Rupert Campbell-Black and Tony Baddingham as they see the end of their long-running rivalry. Coincidentally, Aidan Turner had previously filmed at Chavenage House (a rival monastery). The same filming location was also used to portray Trenwith House in 2015.
I read The Rivals a few years ago and loved every page!
It’s quite difficult to compare a book and its characters to a TV adaptation, because we all have an idea of how certain characters should look and behave. Also, while we can read a book at our leisure, TV has to move at a pace that suits the format and doesn’t drag, so some characters or subplots may need to be cut. on behalf of That said, yes, there are differences from the book, but none so big that they detract from the overall enjoyment and entertainment value.
It makes us love Declan as much as we hate Lord B!
The characters, especially Aidan Turner as Declan O’Hara, the famous journalist and David Tennant as the villainous Lord B, are excellent! The 80’s music is great, although one part that bothered me was the high-pitched operatic opening score, it just didn’t fit. As for all the sex scenes, yeah, we could do without them because we all have imaginations, but that wouldn’t be the book Cooper wrote.

It was wonderful to see Jilly Cooper herself on the lunch stage at the restaurant. The last episode ended completely differently than the book, so I hope there will be at least one more season to see what happens with Taggie and RCB . .
