Narrative
After a shipwreck, an intelligent robot named Roz is stranded on a desert island
In order to survive the harsh conditions, Roz bonds with the island’s animals and takes care of an orphaned goose. Lupita Nyong’o is joined by writer-director Chris Sanders to discuss their significant contributions and their time together on the set of Wild Robot. According to writer Peter Brown, the inspiration for Wild Robot came from a sketch he made of a wooden robot. He then asked the question, “What would an intelligent robot do in the wild?” When the fox enters the cabin, the moose grunts at the door, but the sound effect used is a recording of a bear.

I liked this movie
It has a wonderful message of tolerance and unity. The voice acting is lovely. The animation is very good, at times stunning. I liked the story, although I can see that some people find it too silly or cliché.
Unfortunately, that also makes it fiction
In such a divided world and a country seemingly hopelessly divided, it is very comforting to experience a story in which characters come together, are able to accept their differences, and build community. But it is nice to dream. The fact that the titular character and the hero who inspires all the changes is the ultimate “other”; it only serves to make things more elegant. I think some people will see this as manipulative and unnecessarily getting on the audience’s nerves.
I really enjoyed this film
But that’s part of the beauty for me. Check out our list of exciting new films from this year’s film festivals, including Venice, TIFF, the New York Film Festival and more.
